Why Rando Bento

In 2024, I left my job in Amsterdam and became a long-distance hiker — the Camino de Santiago, Tour du Mont Blanc, a kora around Mount Kailash, the Annapurna Circuit, the Kumano Kodo. Through all of it, one thing became clear: food makes a huge difference out there. Not just as fuel, but as comfort, motivation, and joy.

During a hike in Japan, our hosts prepared beautiful bento boxes to take on the trail. Simple, thoughtful, delicious — the highlight of the day. It made me wonder: why can't trail meals always be like this?

That question became Rando Bento. Every meal is dehydrated in small batches in Amsterdam using quality ingredients. No artificial preservatives, no mystery ingredients. Just real food that happens to weigh almost nothing.
